What’s a FENSA Certificate, why do you need it, and what does it cover?
FENSA is a Government Authorised Competent Person Scheme for the replacement of windows and doors in England and Wales.
This self-assessment scheme was set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF). The main function of the operation is to ensure double glazing companies comply with current Building Regulations when installing new windows and doors into your home.
A FENSA certificate covers you when you have replacement external windows and doors, against the relevant Building Regulations in domestic properties.
When do you need a FENSA certificate?
FENSA certificates have only been required since 1st April 2002 for the replacement of windows and doors installed.
When don’t you need a FENSA certificate?
A FENSA certificate is not needed when windows and doors are being installed into:
New buildings
Conservatories
Orangeries
Extensions
External porches
Property Conversions such as a barn conversion
Commercial properties
Listed buildings
Caravans
Detached garages
Sheds
Mobile homes
and in the case of reparation works
Why do you require a FENSA certificate?
Confirms that your home is in compliance with Building Regulations
Confirms it’s registered with the Local Authority which is a legal requirement
Provides proof of your home’s Energy Efficiency Certificate
Essential requirement when selling the property
Verifies your installer’s guarantee is insurance backed
Why should you use an authorise FENSA installer?
If you are not dealing directly with the local Building Control Department, your installation company is legally required to be a member of the Government authorised Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) – In this instance FENSA registered.
As a FENSA approved installer, Realistic Home Improvements are assessed regularly by FENSA to ensure that the high standards and commitment to excellence are continually maintained.
Also, as a FENSA approved installer we make sure all our installations comply with the latest Building Regulations as well as Energy Efficiency guidelines.
Insurance back Guarantees (IBG)
FENSA installers are required to include an insurance backed guarantee on all replacement windows and doors.
When do you receive your FENSA documentation?
You will usually receive your FENSA certification document through the post a couple weeks after your installation has been completed. Proof of a job done right.
Why you need to keep your FENSA Certificate?
It is important to keep this safe in your records because if or when you decide to sell your property, the buyer’s solicitor will request a copy.
A FENSA certification provided by Realistic Home Improvements is our declaration that your replacement Windows and Doors
Comply with the relevant Building Regulations Codes, using the energy efficient products and are registered with the local council. The FENSA Certificate verifies that your product warrant has an insurance backed guarantee, that the works have been carried out to a professional standard and you have the correct documentation available when it comes to selling your home.
