Edwardian Conservatory – Glass Roof – Mr. and Mrs. Wessels wanted a bright, practical living space that would extend their home and add year-round usability. After discussing their ideas, we designed a bespoke Edwardian-style conservatory with a glass roof. The clean, symmetrical lines of the Edwardian style offered maximum floor space, while the white uPVC frame from Ultraframe delivered durability, low maintenance, and a timeless look.

Glazing Specification

Because the conservatory faces south, solar gain was a major concern. Instead of relying on standard glazing, we specified Azura+ combined with Plantiherm 1, sealed with argon gas-filled units. This combination:

• Cuts down excess heat during summer.

• Improves insulation in colder months.

• Lets in high levels of natural light while keeping glare to a minimum.

• Enhances overall energy efficiency.

By choosing this specification, we gave the Wessels family a conservatory that stays comfortable and welcoming in every season.

Site Preparation and Build

We began by clearing the site, which included removing the old external shed. Once the area was ready, our team built a strong insulated suspended timber base as the foundation. Next, we constructed insulated cavity dwarf walls to boost energy efficiency and add structural strength.

To finish the walls, we applied a concrete render externally for a durable, weatherproof surface that blends with the home. Inside, we fitted plasterboard and skimmed the walls, leaving a smooth finish ready for decoration.

The Result

The new conservatory gives the Wessels family a bright, versatile space that opens directly into the garden. The Edwardian design adds elegance and balance, while the performance glazing makes the room comfortable no matter the weather. The family now enjoys a space filled with natural light without the discomfort of overheating in summer or losing heat in winter.
